Secondary Research

My article was called New York style and it was explaining the different dialects of New York city. People in New York speak in different conversations than they do in other parts of the U.S., because they have conversations with strangers on the street about anything. It answered my research question by telling me different dialects in New York and how people speak them in conversations. 

My Research Plan

I plan to answer my questions by researching New York dialects and answering with my opinions and facts that I gather while reading. I hope to find sources on New York language that helps me identify accents and dialects. I plan that these sources will also help me gain information that I can use when I ask people questions for my questionnaire. I will survey students and teachers all over the school with questions that give me both fact and opinion.

Where have the New York accents originated from?

What are the main dialects in New York?

How well do you know the New York dialects and accents of today?

On a scale of 1-10, What is your opinion on the differences between both the southern dialects and the northern dialects?

On a scale of 1-10, What is your opinion on the differences between both the southern accents and the northern accents?

My Research Goal

I want to know more about the New York dialects and be able to understand what different things they say than what people in the south say. I hope to find all sorts of interesting information on the New York dialects of today.

My Language Beliefs

I believe language is very important because it is how you communicate with people. Language has different dialects and accents that can help you identify someone with it. I believe this because if someone has their own way in saying things and how they sound when they say it you can learn where they come from. I've heard people who have different accents and dialects and I have been able to identify where they are from, which helps me learn about  them without having to ask about it.
